01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

One of the pleasures of eating at Satomi is choosing an okonomiyaki base and adding toppings to suit your taste. The menu also includes modanyaki, yakisoba and yaki-udon, soba and udon rolls, negiyaki and vegetable rolls, with toppings such as pork, squid, prawns, mochi and cheese. If you are unsure what to order, a soba roll is a good place to start. One diner enjoyed theirs with pork and squid, adding potato, shichimi chilli, aonori seaweed and bonito flakes. Another says a soba roll with oden is their usual order. There is pleasure in putting together your own combination around the restaurant’s signature dish.

Some diners say the thick Chinese-style noodles make the modanyaki especially satisfying. One person added potato from the oden and found its soft, fluffy texture a pleasing contrast. Another review describes the okonomiyaki as light and fluffy inside, with a crisp surface. Oden ingredients can also be ordered individually, making them another distinctive option here. Alongside staples such as daikon, egg and konjac, the menu lists goboten, shiroten, lotus-root tempura and beef tendon. Some diners start with oden before moving on to a soba roll; others pair the ingredients with okonomiyaki. With the choice of ordering them on their own or as toppings, it is easy to shape the meal to your liking.

The menu extends to teppanyaki and other small plates, including tonpeiyaki, pork kimchi, salted squid tentacles and scallops with butter. There is plenty to choose from whether you want a hearty meal centred on soba rolls or okonomiyaki, or prefer to add a few small dishes and oden to your teppanyaki. Drinks include draft beer, chuhai and junmai sake, as well as non-alcoholic beer and juice.

One diner notes that the portions are generous and suggests sharing if you plan to order a range of dishes. Others have used the takeaway option; one person took home yakisoba they could not finish in the restaurant. Opening hours are 11:30 to 22:00. The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Payment is stated to be cash only.
